Australia to lock horns with India in the World Cup Final


 

Australia defeated South Africa by 3 wickets in the semi-final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday.

After won the toss in overcast condition South Africa were batting first.

South Africa batters looks clueless against Australian bowlers they kept on losing early wickets.

The proteas suffered the first blow with skipper Temba Bavuma, losing his wicket at the end of the first over to Mitchell Starc for duck. The started to bat cautiously but there most in form batter Quinton de kock getting out for just 3 runs as Pat Cummins took stunner to end his innings on the bowling of Josh Hazelwood.

Rassie van der Dussen(6 off 31) struck by Josh Hazelwood and Aiden Markram(10 off 20) were dismissed by Mitchell Starc before rain arrived in the game.

Its look like that there innings would be wrap up early by Aussies  bowlers but Henrich Klassen and David Miller provided there side a much needed partnership 95.

The two batters were all set but Travis Head increased the trouble of South Africa as he sent back Henrich Klassen (47) and Marco Jansen for duck.

Despite all the setback, Miller didn’t stop and continued to score for his side and eventually completed his well deserved and hard fought century but the left handed batter was removed soon by Skipper Pat Cummins he departed on 101 0ff 116 included 8 fours and 5 sixes .






South Africa were all out for 212 runs in 49.4 overs. Mitchell Starc was the most successful bowler from the Aussies in the innings as he taken 3 for 34 in his 10 overs. Also, Cummins has took 3 wickets. Josh Hazelwood bowled brilliantly gave just 12 runs in 8 overs and took 2 wickets witch economy of 1.50. Travis Head also bowled really well as an part timer as he managed to took 2 for 21 in 5 overs.

Despite an easy and low target, the Aussies started on a high note and continued to play with 7 runs per over rate and showed no sign of stopping.
Even though they lost 2 wickets in quick successions with David Warner(29 off 18) and Mitchell Marsh(0 off 6)  walked back to the pavilion in the successive overs, Travis Head continued to charge against South African bowlers.

In the 15th over when score was 106 Travis Head got bowled by Keshav Maharaj but once again he played match winning aggressive knock of (62 off 48) included 9 fours nad 2 maximums.

After that, they started to lose wickets in the middle overs and found themselves helpless against the Proteas spin attack.

The wickets continued to fall down with Gerald Coetzee piking up crucial wickets as he removed the well set batters, Steve Smith and Josh Inglis.
However, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins held their nerves and guided their side to victory after much struggle, chased the target in 47.2 overs.
From South Africa Gerald Coetzee and Tabraiz Shamsi took 2 wickets each. While, Maharaj. Rabada and Markram Managed to took 1 wickets each.

Travis Head named player of the match for his accelerating knock of 62 and for his spin magic by which he has taken 2 for 21.

This was the fifth time South Africa played and lost the World Cup semi final.

Australia, looking for their sixth World Cup, are set to lock horns with India in the much anticipated final on November 19 in Ahmedabad .
