England managed to defeat Pakistan by 93 runs at the Eden Gardens on Saturday to end their defence of the world cup title with consolatory win and have qualified for the ICC champions trophy 2025.

Batting first, England managed to post 337 on the score
board with the help of solid batting display from their top order.
Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow provided their side with a
dominant start as they scored 80 runs within 13 overs. Malan (31) was the first
batter to depart after becoming the victim of Iftikhar Ahmed.
Malan was soon followed by Bairstow when England were 108 as
the right handed aggressive batter ended up losing his wicket for 59 runs.
Then, Joe Root and Ben stokes build crucial partnership of 132 that helped
England men’s to get in a comfortable position.
Stoke remained top scored for England with 84 runs included
11 fours and 2 sixes. The left handed batter was on his way to score 2
consecutive World Cup century but was bowled by Shaheen Shah Afridi. Who had
dropped him when he was on 10.
However, Buttler (27 off 18)
and Harry Brook (30 off 17) quickfire
innings helped England to set 338 runs target.
For Pakistan, Haris Rauf took 3 wickets. While, Shaheen and
Wasim bagged 2 wickets each and Iftikhar managed to pick 1 wicket only.
In reply, Pakistan suffered 2 early blows as Abdullah
Shafique and Fakhar Zaman, were removed by David Willey (played his last Match)
in first three overs, leaving Pakistan at 10-2 after 2.4 overs.
After that dismissals, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan
provided some stability to the team but both were got out after 22.3 overs as Pakistan
were 4 down for 100 runs.
Salman Ali Agha top scored for Pakistan as he notched up 51
runs before he departs. Shaheen Shah Afridi contributed to 26 runs down to the
batting lineup.
Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Jr. smashed some runs and
combined 53 runs for Pakistan but their heroics were not enough for Pakistan.
From England, David Willey took 3 wickets, Adil Rashid,
Moeen Ali and Gus Atkinson had taken 2 wickets each. Chris Woakes also had claimed
1 wicket.
The Men In Green were all out for 244 runs in 43.3 overs and
ended their World Cup journey with a defeat.
